A roof, a floor, and nothing else

The brief asked for a small performance space. The building already was one. What it did not have was a roof, a level floor or a door that shut, and the whole budget went to those three things. There is no lighting rig, no raked seating and no foyer, because the moment any of them existed the room would have needed to be about them.

The chapel interior under the new roof, looking towards the east window.

The cheapest intervention was also the only respectful one, which does not happen often enough to be a method.

Something comparable?

We take on three or four buildings a year.
